Case Study By The Holistic Life Coach Auckland:
When “Maybe I’m asking too much” starts to become the story you believe…
Sometimes you don’t realise how disconnected you’ve become from yourself until you finally stop and ask:
“Wait… is this actually the life I want?”
That was the question sitting underneath the surface for one of my clients when she google searched “Life Coach Auckland” and reached out to me.
On paper, she was functioning; she had a job, she had a relationship and if you looked at her Instagram… her life looked good from the outside!
But internally, she was unhappy in her work, increasingly unsettled in her relationship and struggling to make sense of what she actually wanted.
She felt stuck.
And perhaps more importantly, she had started questioning herself.
Was she being unrealistic?
Was she asking for too much?
Was she expecting too much from her partner?
Was she simply unhappy with her job because she was difficult to please?
The more we explored, the clearer it became that this wasn’t simply a mindset problem. There were some much bigger questions underneath it all that we needed to explore in our sessions.
It started with a Wellness Discovery
One of the things I love about my approach to personal life coaching is that we don’t immediately jump into fixing the thing that appears to be the problem, we go deeper first.
My Wellness Discovery process as a Holistic Life Coach Auckland, gave us the opportunity to step back and look at the bigger picture: her values, beliefs, relationships, work, wellbeing, environment, expectations, behaviours and the patterns influencing her decisions.
And that’s where the fog started clearing… when we looked at her life through the lens of value alignment, there were some pretty significant disconnects.
Her workplace wasn’t aligned with what mattered to her. And neither was her relationship, that distinction was important.
She hadn’t simply become “unhappy”. She was trying to build a life around circumstances that didn’t actually reflect what she valued.
The relationship wasn’t matching the promises
One of the biggest areas of confusion was her relationship. Her partner was telling her that they were building a future together.
The words sounded reassuring but when we looked at what was actually happening, there was a very different picture.
She wasn’t being included in meaningful conversations about their future: finances, family decisions and all the practical things that demonstrate two people are actually building a life together.
Yet whenever she questioned this disconnect, she was left feeling as though she was asking for too much or she was twisting the picture into something different.
Over time, she had begun questioning her own expectations. Maybe she was being demanding. Maybe she needed to be more patient. Maybe she should just trust what he was telling her.
This is where communication, boundaries and self-trust became critical.
Because there is a huge difference between:
“My partner has a different communication style to me.”
and:
“The reality I am experiencing doesn’t match the future I am repeatedly being promised.”
We weren’t there to decide what her partner should or shouldn’t do. We were there to help her get clear about what she needed from a healthy relationship, what she was actually experiencing, and where her boundaries sat.
And that clarity shifted everything.
Clearing the clutter in her head as The Holistic Life Coach Auckland
When you’re emotionally caught inside a situation, it can be incredibly difficult to separate facts from fears, hopes from evidence and what someone has promised from what they’re actually doing.
That’s why we used a combination of tools throughout her coaching.
Emotional Clearing Method
We worked on clearing some of the emotional clutter – not suppressing it, not pretending everything was fine.
And definitely not trying to positive-think our way out of it.
We created space for her to acknowledge what she was feeling, process it and separate the emotional noise from the decisions she needed to make.
Because when your head is full of:
What if I’m wrong?
What if I’m asking too much?
What if things change?
What if he really does mean it?
…it becomes incredibly difficult to hear your own voice.
Relationship Reflection
We used my Relationship Reflection tool to look at the relationship through a much more objective lens.
What did she want? What was actually happening? What were her non-negotiables? What patterns were repeating? What did healthy communication look like to her? What did partnership actually mean?
And perhaps most importantly:
“Was the relationship she was experiencing compatible with the relationship she wanted?”
That was a very different question from:
“How do I make this relationship work?”
And sometimes, the question you ask determines the entire direction of your life.
Boundaries
We also worked extensively with boundaries – not boundaries as ultimatums, but boundaries as information.
What am I okay with? What am I not okay with? What do I need? What happens when that need isn’t respected? What action am I willing to take?
This is where accountability comes into the coaching process too. Not accountability for another person’s behaviour but rather accountability for your own choices.
Because clarity is powerful, but clarity without action simply becomes another thing you think about.
Life Blueprint
Once some of the emotional noise had settled, we could finally ask the bigger question:
“If you weren’t designing your life around what other people expected from you, what would you actually create?”
Enter the Life Blueprint – another of my highest performing and unique life coaching tools.
As I’ve written about before, the Life Blueprint isn’t a traditional five-year plan. It’s not a spreadsheet of goals and achievements.
It’s about getting radically honest about the life you want to experience and identifying the values, relationships, environments, mindset and rhythms that support it.
It gives you something to measure your decisions against and for this client, that became incredibly powerful.
Because suddenly she wasn’t making decisions based purely on What should I do? What will make everyone else happy? What if I get it wrong?
She had a clearer internal compass.
She knew what mattered to her.
She knew what kind of relationship she wanted.
She knew what she needed from her working life.
She knew what she wanted her future to feel like.
And once she knew that, the gaps became much easier to see.
Her career changed too
Interestingly, the relationship wasn’t the only area where she was out of alignment. Her work was another major piece of the puzzle.
She had been unhappy in her job for some time, but initially viewed the problem as something she simply needed to “fix” within herself.
Through the Wellness Discovery and Life Blueprint work, we explored what she actually wanted from her career: what motivated her, what environment brought out her best, what values she wanted her work to reflect, what kind of contribution she wanted to make, what she wanted more of and what she wanted less of.
And once again, the issue wasn’t simply that she needed a better mindset, she needed better alignment.
That realisation gave her the confidence to explore a completely different direction… and she did!
She moved into a new field that she absolutely loves. Not a slightly better version of the same thing. Something genuinely different, something that fits her.
And then she made the biggest decision of all…
She left the unhealthy relationship behind.
Not because I told her to, that’s not what I do as a Holisitic Life Coach. She reached her own conclusion through our life coaching sessions.
She had enough clarity to recognise the difference between the future she had been promised and the reality she was experiencing.
She stopped trying to convince herself that her needs were unreasonable.
She stopped negotiating herself down.
She stopped believing empty apologies with no behaviour change.
She stopped waiting for someone else’s actions to validate what she already knew internally.
And she chose herself.
Watching the Life Blueprint come to life
This is the part of holistic life coaching I love!
Because the Life Blueprint isn’t supposed to stay on a piece of paper. It is supposed to become a life… and hers is.
She’s now working in a field she genuinely loves. She’s moved forward without that unhealthy relationship weighing her down. She’s clearer about her boundaries, more confident in her communication and has developed a stronger sense of self-trust.
And she’s watching the life she once struggled to articulate start appearing in front of her.
Not perfectly, not overnight, and certainly not without some brave deliberate decisions.
The result of working with The Holistic Life Coach
It’s the difference between simply knowing what you want and actually creating a life aligned with it.
Sometimes clarity isn’t about finding the answer…
It’s about removing everything that is getting in the way of hearing yourself.
That’s what we did together.
We cleared the emotional clutter, examined the evidence, explored her values, challenged the stories she had started believing about herself, looked honestly at her relationship, explored her career, strengthened her boundaries and worked on mindset, communication and accountability.
And then we created a blueprint for what she actually wanted.
Because sometimes you don’t need someone to tell you what to do, you need someone who can help you slow everything down enough to hear your own voice.
That is where a personal life coach can make a profound difference and that is the heart of my holistic life coaching approach.
It’s not about fixing one isolated problem, it’s about looking at the whole picture.
Because your career affects your wellbeing. Your relationship affects your mindset. Your boundaries affect your confidence. Your values affect your decisions.
And your decisions ultimately shape your life.
What would your Life Blueprint say?
Perhaps you’re reading this and recognising a little of yourself.
Maybe you’re unhappy in your career but can’t quite explain why or perhaps you’re questioning your relationship.
Maybe you’ve been told you’re too demanding, too sensitive, too ambitious or simply expecting too much?
Maybe you’re functioning perfectly well on the outside while privately wondering:
“Is this really the life I’m choosing?”
If that’s where you are, you don’t necessarily need a five-year plan!
You might need clarity first.
You might need space to separate what you want from what you’ve been told you should want.
You might need to look at your values, your relationships, your career and your boundaries through a different lens.
And you might need someone in your corner who will ask the questions you haven’t been asking yourself.
